O'Neal announced it has hired five new people as it ramps up its team in anticipation of an economic recovery in the region.

Chief Financial Officer Judy Castleberry said O'Neal entered 2010 with a strong backlog of work, and currently has $80 million to $100 million of work on its books.

"Our wagon is clearly hitched to manufacturing," said President and CEO Kevin Bean.

Noting that some firms have gone out of business because of the Great Recession, Bean said the clients that once worked with those now-defunct firms represent a "perceived market share out there to be won."

The new staffing is a response to new business already on the books and the expectation of more new business, Bean said.

Mike Hixson will join O'Neal as procurement manager. Hixson has more than 20 years of procurement and logistics management experience. Most recently, Hixson worked as Materials Manager at Fluor in Greenville.

Jeff Pettit has been named senior architect. Pettit brings more than 25 years of design experience to OÂ'Neal, having worked with such firms as Craig, Gaulden, Davis and Design Strategies. Most recently, Pettit served as Architectural Leader at CH2MHill in Spartanburg.

Doug Phillpott will serve as a staff process engineer. Phillpott has more than 22 years of experience in industrial and environmental process design, having worked at numerous Upstate firms, including Day and Zimmerman, RMT Inc. and Pinnacle Consulting Group.

George Zokoff will join O'Neal as a project manager. Zokoff brings more than 25 years of construction and engineering experience to OÂ'Neal, having worked with Fluor and Mustang for various industrial clients.

Jeff Brogdon has been hired as a safety technician. Brogdon comes to O'Neal with 15 years experience in occupational safety and health management, environmental health and safety services, safety training programs, and workerÂ's compensation claims management. Most recently, Brogdon worked as a Health and Safety Executive Supervisor for Fluor.
